Train of Thought: Communication Skills for Personal Trainers

Learning Objectives:

1. With the rise of functional training and non-machine exercises, movements and form must be taught with greater precision than ever before to avoid potential injury. Participants will learn the techniques to deliver clear and concise instruction to even novice participants in a way that encourages maximum adoption and retention.

2. "Watch me, do that" simply is not good enough. Trainers must communicate with, not talk at, their clients to ensure form is learned and movements can be repeated safely even when the trainer is not around. We will discuss the four ways in which clients receive information, the three phases of learning and the two ways to communicate effectively.

3. Medical facilities are often providing service to individuals with physical challenges. This seminar will also expose participants to the communication roadblocks of training the physically challenged, and provide insight how to overcome those challenges for better client understanding and results.

Brief Overview:

Are you frustrated that your novice clients can't seem to properly execute the exercises you're giving them? You're not alone. With more than two-thirds of US adults classified as overweight or obese, personal trainers are more likely than ever before to encounter clients with little or no gym or workout experience. This interactive seminar will teach you the communication skills to ensure your clients get it right, even when you aren't watching.
